Stop Motion Fabricator: Specializing in Scaled Set and Prop Design

Loving Me

Loving Me is a film about learning to love yourself. It is set in a 1920s bar in Paris. Written and directed by Mane Harutyunyan.  I worked as a fabricator and set dresser.

Lamps

I fabricated two table lamps and two wall lamp shades. The bases of the lamps are made from brass tubes and 1/4″ MDF; the harp is made from brass rods and a wooden dowel; the shade is made from a vacuum form of a plastic cast from a chavant clay sculpt. Then I cover the shades with a thin fabric through which light can still pass and use embroidery thread for details.  I also rigged the lighting for the lamps.

Hero Stool

I constructed the hero stool that the puppet interacted with throughout the film. It is built from square brass tubes and aluminum sheet metal, and the seat is made of cast plastic.

Pillars and Arches

I constructed pillars and arches. I laser-cut the detail molding and the arches, ripped the other wood, and then assembled the pillars.

Bottles

I created the molds and cast the bottles for the bar. I sculpted the bottles from chavant clay, made open-face molds, and cast them in clear plastic so that, when painted, they looked transparent and the lighting would interact better with the bottles.

Cigarette

I made the cigarettes out of brass tubes and propoxy. I then rigged a wire so the puppet could hold it. It is inspired by cigarette holders used by Audrey Hepburn and Cruella DeVille.
